Shows

1940’s Comedy Blitz

Steve Barclay

STEVE BARCLAY’S COMEDY BLITZ SHOW includes the swinging sounds of the 1940’s featuring those unforgettable big band sounds of Frank Sinatra to the soft tones of Bing Crosby and Vera Lynn. Presented in a program tailored to the requirements of each event, entertaining your audience and ensuring a good time is had by all. Actively encourage the audience to sing-along, and rekindle the nostalgic feeling of the 1940’s.

At this time emotions were naturally heightened by the realisation of war, influencing the music of the era. Artist of the time wrote lyrics that portrayed feelings of saying farewell, feelings of love, and feelings of cheer to keep spirits high. There was also some influence from across the Atlantic, American troops who were stationed in the UK brought with them sounds of Jazz, Swing and Blues. One of the most popular radio shows of the 1940’s was WORKERS PLAYTIME starring those unforgettable radio stars Arthur Askey, Richard Stinker Murdock and a cavalcade of 1940’s favourites.

STEVE BARCLAY pays tribute to those radio stars with guest appearances of Tessie O’Shea, Max Miller and of course George Formby. Thanks to the great efforts of ENSA (Entertainments National Service Association) variety entertainment was brought to many of the troops serving across Europe.

Unknown to Millions

Steve Barclay

Stage struck from an early age, Steve Barclay only ever really wanted to do one thing in life – and he did it. His heroes were up there on the stage and by sheer hard work and an eagerness to learn it was not long before he was up there with them.

A very popular and celebrated figure within show business. A proud member of the Grand Order Of Water Rats and world famous Chelsea Lodge.

Steve is a good all-rounder and especially popular at pantomime time. He has been Dame so many times that he is held in esteem as an expert at being a clown in a frock. But he has played so many other parts in this and other stage dramas and comedies as well as a full range of other shows, TV and radio.

Steve Barclay is one of the first names demanded whenever a major star is going on a theatre tour in the UK and often overseas. How did Steve achieve his goals? What highs and lows did he experience on this amazing journey that he is still having?
He might be Unknown To Millions but those who know him, love him and you will too when you have listened to him in this highly entertaining and informative after dinner or lunch time speech.

“Comedy Turns” Review

“Variety was never such fun as in this ingenious magic carpet ride from the variety stage to present cabaret!
And now for something completely different. this is a show that is perfect for smaller venues but, with the right set and lighting also graces the largest of stages. What is it? Comedy Turns. It stars – Steve Barclay.
Yes, this is a show unlike many one-man shows, this one runs the full evening or afternoon, and the 85% audience was simply spellbound, standing as one at the end to acclaim this excellent production.
Steve Barclay holds his audience masterfully and you can never be sure what is coming next. Steve Barclay who has been around for some years as comic, impressionist, singer, and comedy actor. Now he shows another layer of talent with clever writing, a great concept and tremendous on-stage presence.
Comedy Turns is set to tour the country – it is one not to miss if you want an unusual theatre entertainment experience”       – by Bernard Bale.
